Joy and Phil Heal, and Jane Collier from SOBS – Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide – have been given a generous boost to their support activities by the Heath Big Local.
A total of £2420 of lottery funding has been awarded to the charity which supports people affected by suicide.
Joy said: “Each year in the UK, more than 6000 people take their own life. Each suicide has a devastating and lasting impact on families, friends and communities.
“We offer support locally in many ways, including telephone and internet support, and holding monthly self-help support meetings at the Heath Community Centre.
“We aim to prevent further suicide by supporting survivors, as they are at a high risk of suicide themselves.”
The group also works to raise suicide awareness and challenge the myths and stigma surrounding suicide.
Joy goes on to say: “This funding will enable us to reach and support more survivors and help us to increase our work around public awareness.
“By talking about suicide we aim to break the stigma that fuels the silence that leads to loved ones taking their own life.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to Heath Big Local for their generous donation.”
